What is WFPB?

Published on 18 October 2025 at 21:04

Everyone seems to be talking about whole food and plant-based diet, short WFPB. But what  is it and what makes it so different from the other diets? And can it really help you? A big emphasis is also put on fat or processed food. But is a discussion really worth the hassle? These and other things are discussed in this post.

What is WFPB?

Isn't it the same as vegan?

Most people are not used to that term. But to keep the answer short: no, it is not. It brings a lot of small, but important differences. Have a look at this table. That explains it shorter and more precisely than I ever could.

Food                Vegan                WFPF

Meat of any kind

Fish

Dairy from any animal

Eggs from any animal

Vegetables and fruits

Legumes

Nuts

grains

highly processed food (what I mean are things which look and taste like things they are not, i. e. "Fake meat")

Explanation

take as much as you want

try to avoid it

never eat this

So, it is mainly about what you are allowed to do, not what you are not allowed to do.

Shortly about oil and fat

That is a topic which I consider myself as very important. We need oil to keep the coat around the blood vessels functional. But what we already know: fat is not fat, but I do not think that "heart healthy oils" really help that much. Some oils are of course better than others. Every oil stops or reduces the flexibility of your blood vessels for hours. This is reason enough for me not to consume it or products with it in them. I know that it adds a good taste or makes things taste more intense, however the solution is very simple - season your food differently. You can replace it nearly all the time. A blog post which hits that topic more is about to come.

What's the fuss about processed food?

That is also a topic in itself. I will look closer into it in another blog post. Shortly: they are designed for making the customer to      come back and consume more. That rises the profit. The best example are crisps. There is even a whole team behind it to make them perfectly crispy, to fit the taste, and other things. You just have to follow the logic: something which looks like meat, tastes like meat, but is not meat cannot be that healthy. You have to ask yourself: how do they achieve that? Be prepared. The answers to that might put you off.

What do I learn out of it?

I think that eating WFPB is a very good thing. It does not tell you what you are allowed to do and what bot. It lets you make your own decisions. And I think that this is one of the big benefits in being an adult. That way of eating makes you consciously think about what you put into your body. So, take your own responsibility, and make a good choice!
